Complex compensation data & modifying data
Compensation data is often complex due to the diversity in contracts, currencies, part-time employees, and other factors. In this section, we will explore how to utilize additional compensation settings in dataset configurations to standardize these variations and enable accurate comparisons, along with how to modify data in the system after the upload.
Additional compensation settings
There are four subsections of additional compensation settings:
Compensation components: to use the additional compensation settings, you first need to identify the compensation components in your dataset. Only select the compensation component that will be used in the additional settings and no other variables, because you cannot use what you select here as variables in analyses.
Scaling for part-time employees: if your data includes part-time employees, the system can automatically scale the relevant compensation components, and you can decide whether you want to retain the original column or use the scaled one. After selecting the compensation component, scale in the previous subsection, you now have to select which column in your datafile contains the FTE information for each employee. The FTE has to be on the scale 0 to 1, where 1 is 100% employment.
Compensation component aggregates: you can define customized compensation component aggregates, for example, adding together the base pay and the overtime supplements. The aggregates support scaled components, and if you have chosen to retain the original, you can choose between the scaled or unscaled version.
Currency conversion: If your data file includes salary data in different currencies, you can configure the data to show the salary component for all employees in a singular currency (and toggle between the other currencies). For more information on how to set up and import currency data into the system, see: Setting up & uploading currency.
To configure the singular currency, proceed as follows:
Upload a currency table.
Select Use multiple currencies.
Choose which Primary currency you would like to use. The primary currency is the default currency you will view your data in. Below the primary currency, you will see information on what currency table the system will base the exchange calculations on. The system automatically applies the latest currency table to the date of the dataset. For instance, a dataset dated January 31, 2024, will use the most recent currency table available before that date, or the same date.
Select what Column in your dataset describes the currencies codes ("EUR", "USD", etc.).
Click Save to enable the changes.
Modifying data in the system
After a successful upload, you can modify your data set. To do it, proceed as follows:
Open your dataset and select the Dataset configuration. At the bottom of the dataset configuration page, you will see the Dataset preview of the uploaded datafile, including the Records.
Select New record in the top left corner of the table to add an new record.
In each line you can either Delete the employee, or Edit the values for employees.
To add a new column to the data set, you need to do so in the Excel file, before uploading. If you modify a record, the system will highlight it. You can see the changes by clicking on the button Record changes that will appear after the edit in the table or above it.
